About PERLU | Pergas Endowmen Legasi Ulama

Waqf (Islamic endowment) has played a very important role as one of the important sources of funding for the development of Islamic society across the Muslim world historically.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous alms); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased).” [Muslim]

The concept of endowment has made exponential progress and development worldwide, it has demonstrated the immense potential of the endowment instrument to generate funds for public good.

Today, Pergas is driving towards becoming financially self-sustaining and reducing dependency on public funds. It is therefore important for Pergas to set-up this Endowment fund to ensure that it cement its sustainability agenda.

Pergas through its subsidiary Pergas Investment Holdings (“PIH”) will continue to build up this assets for the future sustainability of our Ulama and asatizah.

Beneficiaries

While the accumulation of wealth through physical assets play an important role to sustain the important activities that Pergas upholds, the more important assets are the Ulama and the asatizah in the community.

Over the years, the role of the Islamic religious teachers has transformed to serve the increased expectations of the Muslims society and ever changing dakwah landscape in Singapore.

It evolved from traditional leadership roles, to assuming more versatile roles that contribute to shaping positive public opinion of the Muslim community.

Ulama and asatizah today, play multiple roles by acquiring specialised knowledge in different fields.

Their roles extend beyond the traditional madrasah classrooms and mosques, allowing them to function as socio-religious scholars, lecturers, administrators, writers, research analysts, entrepreneurs and curriculum developers in mosques and other Islamic institutions.

Pergas role has now become more pertinent to develop the generation of asatizah who are experts in guiding the community in all fields and realm.
